I have not eaten the Malay version of char koay teow for some time. It’s different with the Chinese version in the sense that the Malay char koay teow is actually a wet version… I used to love Sany’s char koay teow located at Sg Dua, but they are no longer there, there’s another char koay teow stall instead which are not very good.
Tam Char Koay Teow is very near to my place… it’s located right opposite of Phor Tay Secondary’s School’s Entrance A.
Besides char koay teow, they also have normal Malay fares like nasi goreng (fried rice) with or without side dishes (choices of basic seafood, chicken and beef), plain rice with dishes, tom yam, fried noodles and vermicelli, soups and vegetables dishes.
It’s a small stall by the road side and they have entertainment like the television. They are also courteous enough to ask the customers which are waiting for their meal if they want to read newspapers? I’m not very sure though if they have wifi available.. haha..
Anyways, I take away a pack of char koay teow on the way back home from work.. dished it out and good to find that it’s not overcooked and the koay teow still has it’s elasticity and goot things it’s not all too wet and soggy… it has 3 medium sized prawns, headless though… not the freshest prawns, but acceptable. It also has cockles, generous amount of bean sprouts and chives, cooked with a flavourful spicy gravy, before they stir in with an egg. It actually tasted a little bit hokkien mee-ish or mee bandung-ish kind of gravy. Perhaps it’s because of the prawns..
Compared to Sany’s, this is a little bit spicier.. not as strong flavoured.. but texture is good. Char koay teow is charges at MYR 3.00 (biasa/normal) and MYR 3.50 (special). I think special simply means big… more koay teow…
