Anyways, this Thai "zhu char" is located at a PaiMay coffeeshop at Hamna, oppossite road of Tesco Extra Sungai Dua. If you were to take the turn in from the traffic light to Hamna, when you reached the T junction, the coffeeshop is just at your left hand side corner shoplot.
It's just a small coffee shop and it's not too overly crowded but you can see most USM students and families dining there.
The coffeeshop... parking will be an issue as it's a whole stretch of shophouses and usually the parkings are all occupied, if you're lucky, you'll find one spot, else, you woud have to risk parking by the side of the road, or opposite side of the road...
The small coffeeshop, with choices of Thai "zhu char" or economy rice... there's another economy rice stall and the dish selections seems not bad too...
This time round, we had a quite simple meal... so we ordered, onion omelette. It's very crispy, and although it was deep fried, it's not oily.. we all agreed it tasted nice and differs from the normal pan fried omelette...
And how can we not have tom yam right? so we ordered mix tom yam.. in fact we did not actually requested for any specific tomyam. The ingredients in the tom yam was not very generous though... it has squid rings, small chicken slices and the basic tom yam necessity like tomatoes, onions and stuff... although the ingredients was minimal, the tom yam soup itself is enough to wow us.. it's sweet, sour and spicy pretty much near to perfection... we requested for not so overwhelming spicy though... else we're gonna have sausage lips after that. I saw the next table guy brought the tom yam soup bowl halfway eating, i think requesting for a refill... not sure how they charge for it though... So the tom yam soup verdict, all of us liked it...Stir fry ginger chicken.. the chicken slices size was just nice and the sauce is yummy... i could just eat rice with the sauce alone... hahaha... gonna try the green curry chicken next round...
Deep fried kangkung/water convolvulus with thai dip chilli sauce.... this is also fried to perfection, so crispy and it's not oil soaked like some other restaurant's similar dish... even the kangkung itself that was not fully coated with the flour can be so crispy itself... I'm so gonna go curi see how the lady chef prepare this dish next time :P cos i'm pretty curious how can it be so so crispy....Som Tam or also known as thai papaya salad.. nicely done, tasted just fine to my palate... yummy...
We ordered the dishes and they prepared more of like small to medium portion for us 4 person. so with 5 dishes, 5 rice portions, one each with additional rice for Justin (he said the additional rice portion is bigger than the first original portion), the total bill came up to..... MYR 32.70... do not have the price breakdown though, so on average, a dish is cost at around MYR6... affordable isn't it? :D I think if we were to order fish, perhaps it's gonna cost slightly more but I still somehow feel it's going to be affordable cos fish is usually charged by market price.
4 of us left with a happy tummy and thanks to Teddy for the meal, and will definitely go back again for more thai food... the next time there, I'm gonna try the green curry (I heard from another friend it's good), keng som fish, urm... what else.. i think they have the white/clear soup tom yam too..
