Blue Reef Fish & Chips, Penang

I bet many have actually blogged about this place.. haha... So i guess no need of extra introduction of this place... :D only my 2 cents :P
Anyways, heard about this place for some time, but never really had the chance to find time for it until a couple of weeks back, I've suggested to a friend, why not we go to Blue Reef and we can head to Batu Feringghi after that?? She agreed and off we went to Tangjung BUngah... it was my first time there too and i was not 100% sure where the shop was.. i only know to turn into Lebuh Lembah Permai... and just blindly guide her since she was driving.. she was skeptical as usual, and started to say, "we might get lost, it's so dark here, got shop and place to eat meh??" It's pretty dark and quiet there at night but easy to find, luckily.. else I'm so gonna be accused for bringing her to no where :P haha... luckily can find... there are few other eateries too at the same row. I've tried another one a week after Blue Reef, gonna post it soon..
So back to Blue Reef Fish & Chips, you have the option to be seated outside to enjoy the night breeze (and if you are a smoker) or the inside of the shop where u get to enjoy the aircond, some music and more comfy seatings... The environment is not bad... quiet and not too packed with people... the menu though is pretty simple... they serve mainly fish, alongside with options like pasta, chicken and one type of steak... I wasn't very hungry so we opt to go with only one main, and some other sides...
The cutleries...

And we were there a day before the Earth our Day.. so it seems they were supporting the cause as well :D

Paintings on the wall... it seems to painted by the same artist.... sea and fishes themed... nice touch

Our drinks.. i had Ice Lemon Tea in (MYR 3.50) in a slim ball glass... so, if you are a person who drink a lot of water, it's not gonna be enough.... and then came the Mocha (MYR6.50) in a huge mug!!! Look at the difference... I wonder if other coffee picks come in this huge mug.... if so, you are so gonna be awake for the next 2 days, caffeine overdosed.. :P when the drink arrived, i just wanted to laugh out loud, cos my friend here is not a big drinker... her jaw just dropped staring at her drink... it would just nice to be shared for 2 person... or 3 :D

Then came the Breaded Calamari Rings, with tartar sauce (MYR10.00), serving is quite big for 2 person... managable though... :D tasted not bad.. perhaps a little big dry since it's crumbed.. the presentation was nice... the colour looked good... but i personally preferred battered to crumbed calamari rings... The waiter actually suggested salt and pepper squid, i guess i'll have that the next round I'm there..

It goes perfectly with the tartar sauce....

The Soup of the Day (MYR8.00) was mushroom soup, so after confirming it's going to be homemade mushroom soup rather than the canned cream soup, we decided to give it a try... it's served with a break stick, sprinkled with parsley flakes... i think... haha
The soup is is not like the typical very thick-like creamy soup... it's more watery towards thin, with lotsa fresh mushroom slice.. so the soup pretty much tasted like slight creamy chicken broth/stock a hint of the fresh mushroom taste... my friend being a huge mushroom fan, liked it a lot..

Seems like something is missing, to go with the soup... or was it just an excuse? haha.. i find that on usual basis, when ordering soup, expecially mushroom soup, we tend to pair it with garlic bread.. are they really match made in heaven? hmm...

So apa lagi, we ordered Garlic Bread (MYR5.00), different from the usual baguette garlic bread where they slice, spread the garlic butter, wrapped in foil, and chuck it in the oven type.. This one is wholemeal bread, quite thickly sliced, generously spreaded with the garlic butter and parsley.. baked to perfection and it was served hot and crispy.... tasted okay, but because the bread slices was toasted until it's crispy, it's rather dry to be eaten alone... so good thing the soup is there :D

So i guess they are really made for each other.. haha...

Since we decided to share a main, even though the menu selection are not huge, we still have a tough time picking the item to have... we did not try the fish and chips, there are pan seared salmon and grilled barramundi in the selections but we ended up choosing Steamed Fish, with ginger and soy sauce (MYR19.00).. fish was fresh catch of the day, the barramundi (also known as siakap), served with butter rice and baby bok choy.. with carrot and cucumber garnishing...

The fish is nice, but it would be better with more sauce as the rice is also quite dry, the aroma of the steamed fish practically made my salivary glands work harder automatically... increasing their output... muahaha....

Inside the Blue reef Fish & Chips..

You will find a lot of drawings on the wall... it seems that most of their patron's kids love to draw and they appreciate those drawings a lot n have it pasted on the wall... so beside the typical seafood images on the wall, there are a lot of kids' drawings too... their placemats are thin piece of the so called drawing papers.... so if the kids wanted to draw, they are more than glad to borrow you the colour pencils.... or you can take the paper home, draw, colour and bring it back :D another nice touch...

Total bill came up to MYR 50.00 which is not bad, no extra gov tax and service tax... They are also very courteus, checking if food is okay and if there is anything else we need... Not all eatery practice this gesture.... so it's very thoughtful of them to go extra mile on the service..

Blue Reef is located at the address below, and if you have difficulties locating the place, you can call 04 8999128 and closed on Mondays.

Will I go back again? Sure I will, looking forward to try the other available mains... :D
