We had a DHL durian outing at the orchard in Balik Pulau yesterday and since we’re heading there, we made a trip slightly further down to the little town of Balik Pulau for LAKSA right after work before the durian feasting session at 3pm! There are 2 laksa place which is located quite opposite each other. One was Nan Guang which was packed with customers, and this one is at Kafe Chuan Heong right opposite the former Balik Pulau Market.
Parking was not easy, we had to park at the empty land next to a coffee shop and walked in the hot sun for some yummy laksa. This place is not as packed though.
You will easily notice this laksa stall for it’s bright yellow colour sign board.
Basic laksa condiments… the cucumber, onions, lettuce, pineapple, chili (red/cili padi), mint leaves and the very fragrant bunga kantan (ginger flower/torch ginger bud)
This may not be the prettiest looking laksa but it’s indeed one of the best tasting laksa… the flavour was just nice, spiciness and sourness is at the right scale. Per bowl is at MYR3.00.
The laksa soup though is not very thick, not very generous in the sense of the fish meat portion. But somehow, the taste is satisfying, I couldn’t be bother about the fish meat/shreds.
The coffee shop is not too packed and thus, it’s cooler in there. Besides laksa, there’s a chicken rice stall.
The location of the cafe is actually easy to spot. It’s next to a paint shop/dealer with colourful wall. That is a turning towards Jalan Tun Sardon (to Paya Terubong/Farlim/Ayer Itam)
Nan Guang, another busy spot for laksa. if it’s not for the durian feast we’re going, we would have stop by here for another bowl :P Another round perhaps :D
One of the landmark, welcoming your arrival to the little town of Balik Pulau, also an indication of if-you-wanna-stop-for-laksa-start-spotting-for-parking-now. If you are coming from Teluk Kumbar route, around 20 minutes drive before you reach this round about, once reached, go 12 o’clock, drive few hundred metres and you will see the former market. Laksa feast is awaiting.
