Malay Chicken Rice, next to Batu Maung Post Office

The actual intention there was to have the nasi goreng ayam, but it’s Friday, I guess due to prayers, it’s not open :( The only option was the chicken rice… so since lazy wanna go elsewhere already, makan saja le....

Turn out it’s not bad at all… well, the stall is a lil bit run down, not super squeaky clean kind of place but have their fair share of regulars. Another place where not everyone will go, well again, for an obvious reason.

Not much difference with the chinese chicken rice, it has got the chicken with cucumber slice of course with soup and chili sauce, not forgetting the flavoursome fragrant rice.

1

Served in the kindy-like plate… with sections.. :D

3

Chicken meat is from roasted chicken and poured over with soy sauce.. pretty drenched… and the meat is tender and nice… so good enough for me :D

2

The sauce is yummy… it’s like diluted thai chili sauce with cili padi slices and chopped tomatoes…

Can’t remember the price though… but it’s not that expensive.. quite standard… gonna go try the nasi goreng ayam (fried rice with chicken) next… must remember not to go on Fridays… :D

Mee Rebus/Goreng & Pasembur @ Bulan Restaurant (Cawangan) roadside opposite Knowles, Bayan Lepas

Once in a while, it’s nice to join my malay colleagues for lunch… cos they will go to places that I might have not gone to before.. We one day decided to go to one of the roadside stalls along the Phase 3 & 4 FTZ coastal highway… this one is just meters away from the medan selera opposite the traffic light from Seagate and Knowles.

It’s a lorry stall by the name of Bulan Restaurant (Cawangan)… don’t play play… got cawangan (branches) some more.. serving Mee Goreng/rebus and Pasembur… it’s actually our first time… wanting to be adventurous… haha… well, some may not go for some obvious reasons… but to me.. I’m kinda flexible… :P The food is okay, portions are huge and price reasonable… you get to enjoy sea breeze and well, it can be a little bit hot for lunch though… evenings should be fine…

The stall… and the pak cik (uncle)..

1 The “restaurant”, I mean, cawangan, open air concept…. pick your seat under the biggest tree for better shade!

3The pasembur…. the sauce is more reddish, well, I personally prefer the orangy milkish colour type… kuah kacang(peanut sauce) type.. and lotsa chili brown sotong! Taste wise is okay.. and the portion was too big, I could not finish…

The Mee Rebus with sotong overload too.. :D and also another huge portion….

4 My colleagues said it’s not bad too too :D very generous portion…

5

You can opt for vermicelli(bee hoon) too if you don favour yellow noodles….

Price are reasonable… ranging from MYR3.50 to MYR5.00.

Sin Hwa Lam Seafood Restaurant, Batu Maung

Besides the yummy zhu char I’ve posted while ago, they also serve ala carte meals like fried vermicelli, fried rice, rice with one type of dish and sauce, noodles and more. There was a visit but I totally forgot to take photos… the fried rice with pai kut ong (ribs in sweet and sour sauce) is one of the best… so next time I go makan, I’ll post it up :D

We opted for lighter meals that day, so most of us had fried vermicelli and the guy of course must fill his tummy, decided to go for the rice… healthier version..

Singapore char bee hoon (fried vermicelli with tomato sauce etc).. nice and flavourful… many places offer Singapore char but some taste kinda bland… and why is it called Singapore char.. I don’t know… haha… go BING or Google urself… I notice that I start to enjoy food that I don’t favour during childhood times.. Like this Singapore Char or any vermicelli dish… I’ve always opted for noodles or hor fun instead… but now, sometimes I can crave for vermicelli (bee hoon)

1

“Lam” Rice… I don’t mean blue rice.. but it’s basically rice poured over with vegetable and some meat and prawns cooked in thickened gravy (kinda like sar/char hor fun’s gravy, oyster sauce, soy sauce etc).. oriental nasi banjir (flooded rice)… :P .. now you know why I said it’s a healthier version… more vege than meat :D

2 Tom Yam Char Bee Hoon (Tom Yam Fried Vermicelli), another flavourful choice… smells good and of course taste as good too…

Japin, Queensbay Mall, Penang

This is not the first visit to Japin… have been there quite a few times… but I do notice some changes during this visit… the menu has changed… some older items still maintained but of course there are also new items to choose from… the variety has improved… even the menu is a booklet type instead of the foldable one piece type of menu… of course I also notice the price change too… increase la of course :)

Anyways, to me, Japin serves pretty good meals… some do not enjoy as mush though… I’m not sure why… It’s Japanese base kinda outlet with a hint of something else… and if you compare to really typical Japanese eateries, I personally feel it’s not bad at all… even better than some I’ve tasted elsewhere… Portions are quite generous too…

Like any Japanese restaurants, utensils, chili powder, pepper is placed on every table… shoyu is missing though… Green tea @ I-Can’t-Remember-The-Price… something like MYR1 additional with every meal ordered…. I think.. can’t recall.. this is like a couple of months back :P

7

They have monthly Oishii Promotion… selected item at MYR7.90nett.. the selection is pretty limited so we decided to go for the ones in the menu…

3

First up, Teriyaki Setto (Sweet Sauce Chicken Set) @ MYR19.80++ My defaulted order..

1

Set consist of grilled yummy tender teriyaki chicken (but I felt the portion has gone smaller compared to my previous visit), potato salad and salad (cabbage) with some sort like thousand island sauce with a hint of slight spiciness…

2

Accompanied by miso soup, kimchi (pickled vege) and slices of watermelon.. well.. not forgetting, a bowl of Japanese white rice…

4

My colleague ordered Oyakodon (Chicken & egg with rice) @ MYR 9.80++

5

Another colleague ordered Shichimi Teriyaki Don Setto (Spicy Teriyaki Chicken with rice set) @ MYR14.80++ that comes with the same sides (watermelon slices, kimchi and miso soup)

6

Looks yummy isn’t it? The glazed shiny tender chicken meat pieces…. Crap.. I just got myself hungry…
