Jade Palace Seafood Restaurant, Abu Siti Lane, Penang

This was my first visit to Jade Palace. Can’t recall how much it was per table, i think it was around MYR488++ to MYR500 for the 8 course dinner. It was a dinner with fellow colleagues and he actually had 2 tables reserved.

The first course was the four seasons platter, and I was not at all impressed. I would not say it’s all bad, but it’s just plain, bland and boring. The presentation was okay.. but taste wise, it’s just so so….

jp4

Then came the shark’s fin soup… which was just okay… a bit pekat semacam only.. like tapioca/corn starch overdose..  the crabmeat was minimal…

jp3

Then the duck which I nearly choked myself with… it’s because it’s very hard to chew to bits… the taste was okay… the texture was not…

jp2Fish was the best course throughout the night…steamed with only ginger, spring onions and soy sauce…. but it’s was really good.. the fish meat was tender and soft, the soy sauce taste just nice and sweet…

jp6 Vege was not bad.… it has got baby corn, with ham, sweet peas and i can’t remember other ingredients in oyster sauce…

jp7Curry prawns served with small loafs of mantou… the flavour was good but the prawns were not that fresh that night… it was not very spicy, mild curry…

jp8 I’m not sure if this is fried “wong tai min” emperor noodles, or just plain “mee tiao”.. but by the time they serve this course, I was quite full already and tasted a little.. it’s tasted just normal, nothing special… so it’s not a memorable one…

jp9The desserts came in 2 different items.. one was like pandan sago steam cake or something… i really have no idea what this is….

jp10

And sago in rich warm coconut cream soup…… which was okay… not too sweet… but not many will enjoy such fare….

If I were to rate this restaurant, out of 5, I’m gonna just give 1.5 or 2. Some said that it used to serve really good dish but many agreed that it has deteriorated.  This was my first time and I was not really impressed with the food. It was rather quiet, not many tables occupied. the service was not bad though…
