Bat Kut Teh, Macalister Road Penang

I initially wanted to go back to the Lai Lai Bak Kut Teh opposite Agora (now known as Red Rock) Hotel. I did notice there’s a change to that place though when drove pass the corner lot coffee shop… so i walked along and saw Lai Lai Bak Kut Teh the the next door, peeped in and see.. hm.. it’s not the same bak kut teh couple… walked to the original place, also named Lai Lai Bak Kut Teh, took another peep… aiks… another different one! not the original one that I used to patronized… sheesh.. where have they gone to… seriously, until now, I don’t know :(

But settled down at the shop also la… cis… how come all claiming they are Lai Lai Bak Kut Teh… it had turned into a small food court instead now… previously, the place is fully the bak kut teh place with huge stock pots and all the piggy parts you can find, in and out :D

5

Garlic, cili padi (birds eye chili) and dark soy sauce, is a must dipping for bak kut teh :D

2

Same goes to yau char kway (you tiao, also known as Chinese cruller fried bread stick)

1

Blanched iceberg lettuce with pork floss and soy sauce….

4

Not forgetting, the bak kut teh itself… this stall does not have much ingredients to choose from…. so it’s like the normal bak kut teh where they mix everything for you…. instead of the original Lai Lai Bak Kut Teh where I choose what ingredients I want to have… Anyhow, the one here is also not bad… presentation wise also, it actually look nice, taste also not bad la…

6

Accompanied by yam rice :D

3

Complete meal… everything is there.. rice, vege, meat…all in….

7

Overall meal for 2 cost somewhere MYR 19 something…. pretty standard with others, that cost between MYR 18 to MYR22 for 2 person.

But I'm still curious… where has my preferred bak kut teh gone to?? :(

Pan Mee @ Hou Mei Yuen, Bukit Jambul

This Pan Mee place is famous among the industrial area working people, as well as locals staying within Bayan Lepas. We visit there on and off too actually.. I’ve been patronizing this place since I was in college…

Here, they offer both soup and dry version of pan mee with choice of the thin or flat noodles… previously they have the pieces type as well.

1

Besides pan mee, you can opt for sides, like choices of dim sums, “chee cheong fun”, “loh mai kai'”, otak otak and rojak too… there’s also an uncle on a bike selling “muar chee” with hokkien songs playing on this little player…

6Drinks are usually loh han kuo, the staffs will carry them in tray, table to table.. and many people adore the chili.. one of my colleagues will have her noodles with scoops of the chili sauce.. Each noodle serving comes with a small bowl of fish ball soup.. So how to make you order is by filling in the order sheet with table number, and the size and quantity before passing it to the kitchen staffs.. the small size is actually a very small portion, so usually, many will order the large size.. some will even order XL.. not in the order sheet.. you indicate it yourselves…

3 This is the dry version, flat pan mee…coeated with soy sauce and  topped with deep fried ikan bilis (anchovies), minced meat, and sliced black fungus… comes with a small bowl of fish ball soup and some vegetable… the fish balls are smooth, chewy and  yummy…

4 Soup version with thin pan mee, also topped with the same ingredients and fish balls…

5

See what I mean with small size.. this one is suitable for kids :D or the ones who want to savour a little bit of this and some of the sides available..

2

The seats are under a big tree, so most of it are shaded areas… if it rains, they also have indoor seating which is more cramped and dark….

Hou Mei Yuen is located behind the Malvest building, among the low cost flats…

Yuna - Deeper Conversation

Yuna's a local artiste which is talented and she sure does have a great voice... :D

Lyrics:
Is your favourite colour blue?
Do you always tell the truth?
Do you believe in outerspace?
And im learning you

Is your skin as tanned as mine?
Does your hair flow sideways?
Did someone took a portion of your heart?
And im learning you

And if you dont mind
Can you tell me
All your hopes and fears
and Everything that you believe in
Would you make a difference in the world
I'd love for you to take me to a deeper conversation
Only you can make me

I let my guard down for you
And in time you will too

if you dont mind
Can you tell me
All your hopes and fears
and Everything that you believe in
Would you make a difference in the world
I'd love for you to take me to a deeper conversation
Only you can make me

if you dont mind
Can you tell me
All your hopes and fears
and Everything that you believe in
Would you make a difference in the world
I'd love for you to take me to a deeper conversation
Only you can make me

Salwa Mee Udang, Teluk Kumbar

Since I’ve read on some good review on Salwa’s mee udang (prawn noodles) after trying the next door Ilyana’s, decided to go for a try with my colleague again this round.

It has got the open air concept, compared to Ilyana’s, it does look more run down though… but they have got a nice view overlooking the sea… I actually put very high hope on the mee udang since the review was pretty good…

1

2

Outdoor seating by the sea….

3

The mee udang was served MYR 14.00…  more pricey..well..with 5 prawns.. slightly smaller than Ilyana’s (they have 3 big prawns)

4

Took a sip of the gravy and hmm.. very strong lemongrass taste… frankly speaking, I prefer the other one better…

7

The noodles was over blanched I guess, as it was too soft too… there’s lack of texture in the noodles.. Maybe also because that the makcik was cooking alone… she mentioned that her cook is not around… something like that…

8

Garnished with red chilies and chopped spring onions…

5

Nasi goreng udang (prawn fried rice) was just okay as commented by my colleague… also at MYR14.00 each. But overall I personally felt that the mee udang is not as good as i thought it’ll be.. so i was a little bit disappointed… and with the price charged…it’s just not a good combo…

13

Kitty cat and her kittens enjoying the view, from rooftop some more….  VIP view..

10

It’s a fishing village so plenty of fishing boats here….

9

Enjoying the sunset…

11

You may take a stroll along this bridge to enjoy the sea breeze and view….

12

Pretty isn’t it? :D

Estrella - Stay

Nice song from a local band, Estrella... and the lead vocal is cute too :D

Sounds straight from the twilight
Has me up all night I can’t
Fall asleep coz I keep thinking of you
And I saw a shadow, outside my window
And it’s you!

Chorus:-
All my sorrows flew away,
Hush keep quiet hear me say
I don’t ever want you to go
Please stay

With the moonlight dancing free
And there’s no one but you and me
There’s no reason to go astray
Please stay

Bridge:-
Making up a story
It’s the way you’re looking at me
If you think that this is funny
It’s just you

Try and think about it
If your heart is closed don’t lock it
Keep your keys back in your pocket, think this through

Repeat Chorus
