Snow World – Milk Snow Ice with Mixed Fruits @ Chatuchak, Bangkok

I had this the first time I went to Chatuchak with my friends, and it’s perfect on a hot sunny day in Bangkok.  Do you know that Bangkok was once named the hottest city in the world? This time round although it’s has entered rainy season, the day time is still as hot. Just a short walk will leave you drenched with sweat, not because of the direct hot sun, but also partly because of the humidity. Good thing that this round, the wind was cold wind rather than hot wind that could really bake you express style under the sun.

And glad to found the stall again, knowing Chatuchak, it’s huge and if you find something you really like in that particular stall, bargain and make your purchase. If you say you’re going to go back later, you probably will not, cos it’s either you cannot remember where the stall is anymore, or you’re just too tired, you couldn’t be bothered going back to that stall. Unless you have great sense of direction that you could memorize the location of all stalls or you make markings on the map of the stalls.  It’s like a huge maze there!

Anyways, we arrived early that day and most stall were just only starting up, getting ready for business. So we took a stroll of the outline of the the market and make a note to come back later of the day, which we did for this stall cos it’s so hot, I really need to eat something cooling and chilling. You get to choose to have milk tea or snow ice. Price ranging from THB 25 to 50 (MYR4.00 to 5.00).

  All ingredients prepared, ranging from different fruits and also red bean.

I had the one with mixed fruit @ THB50 (MYR5.00), and I finished everything up, clean! It’s a big deep bowl!

And it’s not normal shaved ice, it’s milk shaved ice with refreshing fruit and syrup! Yummy and heavenly on a hot sunny day, you might ask for second serving :)

Ice Cream @ Swensen’s, Bangkok

Wanted to go to Hard Rock Cafe but ended up eating ice cream few doors away at Swensen’s, then it started raining cats and dogs…

My Millionaire Chocolate @ THB99 (MYR9.90).. in fact there were so much choices I want to eat them all… but that time tummy can only fit one la… Swensen’s is easily found everywhere in Bangkok… and the price is very much affordable too… Their tag line says, everyday is a sundae!

Millionaire Chocolate comes with 4 scoops of ice cream of your choice loaded with truffles, banana and served with hot fudge.

I had the macadamia, mocha almond fudge, rum and raisins and another one was strawberry something.. :D and the truffles was yummy!

And they serve you a glass of water in their cute glass :D

I wanted to eat one last time before coming back at the Swensen’s located in Tesco Lotus nearby our hotel but I forgot lo… so nvm la.. come back only eat my New Zealand Natural on the 30th and Baskin’s on the 31st la :P

Pad Thai & Duck Rice @ Foodhall, Siam Paragon, Bangkok

Just came back from Bangkok a couple of days ago… it’s rainy season now.. hot in the day and showers starts early evening… it’s my second time there and basically this round is more of a little sight seeing of what I’ve missed the last round, shopping and lotsa eating! I arrive Bangkok the first day near to evening… flight from PEN departed at 5:05pm. We arrived 30 minutes earlier than scheduled and by the time we reached the hotel and checked in, it was already around 7:00pm Thai local time.

So we headed to Siam Paragon via BTS Sky Train from On Nut(pronounced as Ohn Noot) station which is located less than 100 metres from the hotel. It was pretty packed, maybe because it was also a weekend, and it’s also Thailand grand sale. Undecided on where to go, we opted to eat at the foodhall instead as most of the outlets are full with people.

The food hall is huge, and connected to other food outlets across the floor. They offer various type of food, foodhall selling mostly Thai local dishes, and gourmet market offering various types of international food, and huge selections of food chain outlets. You’ll be spoilt with choices!

 

I opted for pad thai with prawns at the food hall for THB70 (MYR7)

I have to say, it’s one of the best pad thai I’ve ever had… not that I eat it very often la.. hehe… but comparatively, this one is good.

Duck rice was just so so… Can remember how much… I think it was around THB60 (MYR6). I think our duck rice tasted better and Mr Friend commented the same. The gravy is just not as nice as ours :P

 

You get to sit at normal square tables, or counter-top-like-tables with big aquariums in front.. ahhh… I’m missing my holidays already….  Bangkok, I’ll be back…

Homemade Oreos & Raisins Mini Muffins

My sis made these mini muffins in hometown few weeks back… she brought back like 30 of them and gave some to her colleagues and left only 4 for me… by right I was supposedly to be sharing them with my bro, but hor….. I finished them all up :P

Rice Porridge / Congee @ Super Tanker, Penang

Rice porridge or also known as congee, besides being an everyday meal for certain group of people (for example the Cantonese), congee is considered to be food therapy for the unwell, like some typical people would ask if you are not feeling well when you place an order for a rice porridge. Well, true also, as congee is usually a mild, easily digestible. Well, in fact many people are also like me, being an Asian, I enjoy eating rice porridge at any time. Sometimes I even crave for it! Be is flavoured congee or even plain white congee.

So good thing, the food court within my neighbour hood, Super Tanker has good 3 porridge stalls! One of it thought is the fish head bee hoon which offered porridge in a rice in soup term. There was another stall selling chee cheong chuk (pig’s intestines porridge) but the stall is no longer there. Anyways, I usually patronize these 2 stalls.

One of it is with variety choice such as shredded chicken porridge, fish porridge, mince pork porridge, and century egg & salted eggs porridge. My usual choice would be the century egg porridge, fish porridge or both fish and century egg mixed together, with extra soy sauce. :D The stall is available from breakfast to dinner, if I’m not mistaken, usually closed on Tuesdays.

Another porridge stall would be the Pork and dried oyster porridge. Only available during breakfasts! Not bad though but of course if you cook it yourself, you can have as much dried oyster you want.. this one just okay la…

As usual, porridge usually comes with you tiao (fried bread stick, also known as yau char kuey) slices. And I like it with losta spring onions, fried garlic and shallots. Yum! In fact, I’ve just finished a bowl of porridge for brunch while writing this :D
