Nyonya Breeze, Abu Siti Lane, Penang

After a tiring hiking trip to Keracut beach with my sis and her friends, we went to Nyonya breeze to fill in our tummies, having to burn most of the calories along the hike :D

There were 11 of us, so we let Shaun be the tauke (boss) and do the ordering… our kerja (work) is to eat only :P

The menu offering is pretty extensive with daily specials… they have most of the authentic nyonya dish you have learnt from “Little Nyonya

Collages1-1

The door to authentic nyonya cuisine…. the menu laa :P

Collages-1

Utensils and plates neatly placed on each tables

Collages2-1

First up.. Ayam Ponteh MYR 12:00 for small serving. Braised chicken with carrots and potatoes in a delicious sauce of bean paste and gula melaka (palm sugar). Substitute the chicken with pork, then you’ll have Babi Ponteh :D My fav dish of the day… it has got this nice flavour with the palm sugar sweetness and the saltiness of the bean paste, both mixed together and viola, i could just eat rice and the gravy alone...

Collages3-1

Collages5-1

Another famous nyonya dish, Jiu Hoo Char, MYR 8.40, add lettuce MYR 2.40 as wraps. Cuttlefish strips stir fried with pork slices , turnip, carrot, cabbage, onions and mushroom strips. Also known to some ask mangkuang char. The slight difference is there’s more cuttlefish strips used for the extra flavour. However, most commented that the one served here is not as fragrant. to me it somehow has got the hint of bak kua taste… haha.. something wrong with my taste buds..

Collages4-1

Acar awak, MYR 7.20. Pickled cucumber, cabbages, carrots, long bean, and it has got french beans too, in spicy tangy mix. I personally prefer my aunt’s :D

Collages6-1

Kari Bak Kut (Ribs curry) MYR 14.40. Thick spicy, savoury curry of pork ribs chunks and potatoes. Very rich and this is also one of my favourite except that the pork rib is not that tender, the flavour though is very good.

Collages7-1

Egg Belanda MYR 3.60 with servings of 2 fried eggs in sweet and sour gravy of tamarind extract and onions… hmm.. this one I did not try because there’s so many other dishes in front of me :P… it looks good though… haha…

Collages9-1

2009-923

Kiam Hu Kut Tau Hu Th’ng MYR 14.40, salted fish bones and bean curd soup with sprinkling of pepper powder and spring onions… This is not bad… the aroma though is not quite there.. but flavour wise was good, not too salty, just nice with smooth tofu (bean curd) pieces…

Collages-2

Nasi Ulam MYR 7.00. Steamed rice tossed with salted fish , dried prawns, belacan, kerisik (toasted grated coconut) and assorted local herbs. This unfortunate not as good as I though it would… My dad make wan better :P rice was quite dry, sould not really taste the salted fish or the dried prawn.. i mean.. the flavour is just not there… quite bland… my dad will usually add fried selar fish though.. perhaps that add some moist into it…

Collages8-1

Digging in… before all dishes were served.. all lapar (hungry) already.. hahaha

2009-922

Business is a brisk even for lunch, patrons moving in and out. Must be regulars… The place is not as huge.. previously they have an outlet in Tanjung Bungah next to Naza Hotel. Went there before, years back with my parents but could not recall much.. perhaps it wasn’t really great…

Collages-3

This round though was pretty pleasant.. with good company and different dishes to try, would certainly go back to explore the others…

U Soya, Taman Pekaka, Penang

Was out for lunch at Pekaka and then decided to go for dessert… soya bean drink and tau fu fa… U Soya is just next to Maxim Dim Sum place, right opposite fried rice king’s coffee shop.

tff8

They offer variety of tau fu fa with different syrup and toppings besides the original one with either sugar syrup or brown/palm sugar syrup… Also available are soya bean drink, kee nya kuih (something like alkaline kuih with brown/palm sugar syrup), longan soya jelly, bread and pastries, fried bee hoon/vermicelli and nasi lemak…

tff9tff7

Seating are available in the shop.. everything is being displayed at the entrance…

tff6

tff10

Smooth hot tau fu fa with brown/palm sugar syrup… yummy…

tff5

Nasi lemak and bread available…

tff4

Menu for your viewing… tau fu fa with various topping, sweet and savoury.. soya bean drink, normal to the ones blended with fruits and vegetable… healthy eh..

tff3

Was too full for tau fu fa, so I take away instead and slowly savour them in the office…

tff2Smooth tau fu fa…..

tff1

With brown/palm sugar… a lil bit too sweet though..  :D

Pizza Hut – Exotic Mediterranean 2

Went to pizza hut to celebrate a colleague’s birthday… urm.. a month ago.. and he treated us for dinner instead.. ahahhaa…

We tried the Exotic Mediterranean meal set which was surprisingly not bad… the last i had before this was in Giant’s Jalan Tengah, Pizza Hut and the spaghetti was a huge disappointment.. luckily not my order.. hehehe

Set consist of 4 soups, a jug of carbonated drink, a regular pizza (Mediterranean Chicken Pan Pizza), a Seafood Marinara Pasta, and a baked rice..

1

Mushroom soup with black pepper!

65

Pizza with char-grilled chicken, mushrooms, mozarella cheese, onions, capsicums and yummy black pepper sauce… topped with out-of-no-where, criss cut fries… but the combination was good.. the sauce makes it taste better… must be Life’s black pepper sauce… not too peppery, just nice…

2

3

Pasta with mussels, prawns, olives, tomatoes, onions, Italian herbs and marinara sauce… not bad…

4The baked rice was also nice… with char-grilled chicken,  capsicums, onions, cream soup and melted cheese…

Was overall quite pleased with the meal… :D Not sure if this is still available since it came out with the new Citarasa Ramadan meal already… one thing with Pizza Hut is they are very fast with festive trends.. introducing a new meal pretty often…

Bites, Lagenda Height, Sungai Petani

This round home, I made the effort to pay Hu Nee a visit at her newly opened shop… must support and “pong chan” la… hahaha…. since most of our friends have been there, I also cannot lose la… muahahahaha

A lot of photos lo… so let them do the work :D overall the food is not bad.. price is also reasonable…

food-1

The menu….. opens up to pretty wide range of yummy looking food! Got illustration punya ok… I personally like menu with illustrations… so I at least know how my food would look like…

shop layout7-1a

Place mats… with utensils and my honeydew milk… :D

shop layout8-1a

Honey dew milk was good, not diluted and good thing is the honey dew is sweet, MYR 4.50.  Wildberry Lemon tea (Naturalis.. Imported from Germany :D) has good nice fragrant and of course, refillable, MYR4.00 and Coke, MYR3.00

menu-1

Beef with black pepper sauce, served with rice, MYR 7.50.. sorry… this one halfway eaten d, only take photo… haha… the the black pepper sauce is just nice and best of all, the beef is tender… sedap! Presentation also pretty simple…

lv cupcakes-1a

Ginger & spring onion chicken, served with rice, MYR 6.50… looks good right? Goh says it’s not bad… portion also just nice… not too small, not too big…

shop layout-1a

Grilled Thai Chili Chicken, served with butter rice, MYR 13.50..

donedone-1

In this bento style meal, it has got the butter rice, deep fried chicken with thai chili sauce, some fries (which was a lil cold soggy by the time it was served), tomato cucumber slices and coleslaw (with lack of the tangy flavour.. hu nee, a lil lemon juice could help or terus get the ready made dressing for coleslaw, the ones from ladies’ choice not bad… or heinz also okay, more exp nia :D) Reason to this is all though the coleslaw plays a small role of the bento, but after butter rice, fried chicken and fries, all oily, I personally like to enjoy the vege too :D Overall, it’s an exciting dish… pretty colours and presentation… tasted not bad too… but there’s room for improvement :D

shop layout1-1a Butter rice nicely fried but I did not tasted much of the butter…. the sesame oil over power the butter it seems… but since I like sesame oil, so it’s fine with me :D just a lil bit too oily… the next time I order.. less oil ya :D

shop layout2-1a

The chicken was great, crispy on the outside, juicy tender in the inside and goes well with the sauce… and the portion is generous too :D

shop layout3-1ashop layout4-1shop layout5-1a

Bites cheesy cocktail sausages, MYR 5.50… on the house…courtesy of Hu Nee :D Sausages is specially ordered, and nicely dished out in small mouth bite sticks with cheese, lettuce and halved cherry tomato. Thousand island sauce for dipping…

shop layout1-1 Interior of the shop… simple yet sophisticated, contemporary and nice… ambiance pretty good… comfortable too…

shop layout5-1shop layout2-1shop layout8-1shop layout7-1

Different types of seating in the shop…

shop layout1-2Cakes, tarts, cupcakes, all nicely displayed… cakes could be displayed with the cut side facing out.. so we can see the fillings… :D the tarts and cakes all seem really yummy, but too bad, no more space in my tummy.. gosh.. it rhymes.. hahaha…

shop layout6-1The view of the entire cafe from the entrance.. and take note that the little cute Louis Vuitton bags are not for sale… :D it’s Ms Boss’ engagement party leftovers :D hahahaha…

lv cupcakes-1shop layout-1

Hu Nee, better do something before they all turn blue and moldy… hahaha.. leather bags need extra care too :P

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri!!

I love puasa(fasting) month… last time during school, it’s because.. my school released their students one period earlier… haha… so balik awal (go home early) is something I get to enjoy too…

Another thing is also the pasar/bazaar Ramadan.. with lots of local Malay delicacies sold… from different types of rice like, nasi ayam (chicken rice), nasi tomato (tomato rice), nasi kerabu (don’t know what it’s called in english but it’s famous in the east coast), nasi lemak or course (coconut rice with sambal), fried vermicelli (i love malay fried vermicelli… the orangy colour ones), fried noodles & koey teow, malay kuih-s, murtabak, ayam percik and many many other things more! So I’m lucky to be able to savour these yummy delicacies having to stay here in Malaysia.

This year I only manage to step my foot once! With hectic schedule, i took an effort to drive to the nearby pasar ramadan at USM’s (University Science of Malaysia) new hostel(Tekun as they call it) side…

With only one tummy, I had to make a choice wisely of what to buy… so I went to the stall with most people… hahahaha.. Nasi Kerabu!!!! I love malay rice.. nasi kerabu, nasi ulam, nasi lemak, nasi lemuni, you name it… I’ll surely like it.. because they have the rich flavour with the sambal and spicy touch.. so sedap!

Collages-1 Nasi Kerabu with the essential ulam and keropok….

blog nasi kerabu-1 With several items to pick, i go for the fish and chicken… MYR 4.00

Collages1-1 Collages2-1 Mix everything up and dig in! Yum!

Collages3-1These are few of the huge selection of savouries…  popiah, roti jala roll, baby burger, curry puff and lepat pisang….3 pieces for MYR1.00

Now that the fasting month has ended, and today is the first day of Aidilfitri, I’m taking this opportunity to wish all my Muslim friends and all Malaysian, Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, and happy holidays! May this time of the year spent happily with family, relatives and close friends… and remember my share of ketupat, rendang, lemang and kuih raya!!! :D
